Thank you for contacting Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue
for assistance in finding a new home for your dog. Please fill out the
Online Dog Listing Form/Agreement and follow
the instructions for completing the form. There is a $25 non-refundable
processing fee for listing your dog with SCLRR. This fee helps cover
the cost of copies, phone calls, and other expenses incurred in our effort
to place your dog. We will advertise your dog on our Internet website,
contact our approved homes waiting for a dog, promote your dog at public
adoption events, and advertise your dog wherever possible. We may come
over to evaluate your dog more thoroughly. We carefully screen each home
that applies to adopt a Labrador from us. We require that all dogs placed
through our referral service be spayed or neutered and up to date on their
vaccinations. We do not operate a shelter, and in most cases cannot take
possession of a dog because our foster home space is extremely limited.
While we are working to place your Labrador, we recommend that
you do the following to help rehome your dog:
- Check www.rescuers.com to
look up additional resources for placing your dog, especially if he is
a mix rather than a purebred Labrador Retriever.
- Put up signs at pet stores, vet offices, training centers.
- Contact people who know your dog-friends, your veterinarian, obedience
instructor, groomer, boarding facility. They may know someone who would
like to adopt.
- Run an ad in the local paper-but be sure to screen potential families
carefully, and visit your dog's new home if at all possible. Be honest
about your dog and any behavior problems he or she might have. An adoptive
family that knows what they are getting into will be more likely to be
a permanent home for your dog.
- If not neutered, spay or neuter your dog. If not vaccinated,
vaccinate your dog. Note that we cannot list any dogs that are not
neutered or are missing their vaccinations.
- If not housetrained, housetrain your dog.
Please enclose a picture of your dog with your application. People are
more interested in a dog that has a picture available for it. If you
wish the picture returned, include a SASE for it. Any people in the
picture will be cropped out. Please write your name and address on the
back of the picture itself, especially if you wish the photo returned.
You can also email a digital picture of your dog to pictures@sclrr.org;
please be sure to include your own name, address & the name of the dog
so that we can match the picture up to this application.
Upon receipt of your listing agreement, one of our representatives
will contact you within 7 days, and if possible, will make arrangements
to meet your dog before we begin referring potential adopters to you.
